Erith Town Raising Awareness of Mental Health with Tommy Crush Foundation
On Monday 21st October, members of Erith Town and Hayden Youth were invited down to attend a Mental Health First Aid Youth Awareness course, with the aim of increasing mental health awareness around our youth teams and providing our coaches with the skills they need to identify and assist those when they desperately need it.
Organised by Marc Petters on behalf of the Tommy Crush Foundation, this was a great workshop for all those in attendance and they were all able to share personal experiences as well as learn techniques on how to deal with mental health issues if they arrive at their clubs.
Speaking of the event, Marc Petters said, “Everyone who knows me knows just how important good mental health is for me. Helping to improve the mental health of those at our club, as well as being able to help those who need assistance is a massive passion for me, and being able to have more people who can spot signs of help when it’s needed from our young players is so important. I’d like to thank everyone who came along tonight, both Erith Town and Hayden Youth and also the Tommy Crush Foundation for all the outstanding work they do for youngsters in our area.”
Head of Youth & Community, Michael Avery echoed Marc’s sentiments saying, “Erith Town is a club which strives to be seen as not just a place for youngsters to come along to play football, but for them to develop and grow in a safe and secure environment. Somewhere where they can receive help or advice where they need it, and for Marc Petters and the Tommy Crush Foundation to be able to host a session like this is just fantastic. Being able to have people who our young players can go to for help or just someone to talk to is a huge thing, and I’d also like to say a huge thank you to Marc Petters and the Tommy Crush Foundation for organising this event.”
