Wear it Blue - Mind in Bexley

Erith Town and Mind in Bexley Come Together to Highlight Mental Health Awareness Week

Erith Town FC and our charity partner, Mind in Bexley, have come together to highlight the UK-wide campaign Mental Health Awareness Week which runs from 13–19th May.

This year’s theme is based around Movement, and the importance of physical activity as a key factor towards good mental health, but alongside improving your mental health, regular activity and exercise can also improve quality of life and wellbeing, as well as help prevent, and treat, a wide number of physical illnesses.

Speaking about the campaign, and the importance of highlighting movement for those in and around the local area, Head of Youth & Community, Michael Avery said, “Mental health and the support that is needed is so important to all of us here at The Dockers, and we are really happy to once again work with Mind in Bexley to help promote Mental Health Awareness Week and the ways people can get help if needed. We continue to pride ourselves on being a family, an organisation that works hard not just for our club and the teams associated with it, but anyone who feels they need help and support. Although our club colours are red and black, we would like to help promote Mind in Bexley’s ‘Wear it Blue’ initiative for this week and do what we can to help those who need it.

Along with our youth set ups and First Team, for those looking to get outside and move around more, Erith Town offer weekly Walking Football sessions on Friday evenings at the Stanmore Stadium from 8:00-9:00PM, which help towards improving the mental and physical wellbeing of those in the local community, and are a good laugh for everyone involved as well. The brainchild of club committee member, Robert Grant, our Walking Football sessions continue to grow in popularity and are a great way to get back into the game we love, but at a slightly slower pace.
