Dockers Win Hard Fought Point Against Jersey Bulls

A cagey opening to the game where both sides were feeling each other out in the middle of the park, left an opening for James Dyer to open the scoring in the 9th minute. Elliot Wenham drove forward from center half, through the Jersey Bulls midfield, where he played a lovely ball out to the right hand side as new signing, Deven Reid-Solanki, took on his opposite number to square the ball to the wide open Dyer who placed the ball into the empty net for an early lead to the Dockers.

The Dockers knocked on the door with several chances, Reid-Solanki had a shot saved off the line by Euan Van Der Vliet, the Jersey Bulls shotstopper, after Dyer put in a superb ball across the box. Then, moments later, Albie O’Mara-Knapp had a shot smash against the bar after beating the offside trap.

However, pressure means nothing without the ball hitting the back of the net. In the 32nd minute Jersey Bulls did just that. A corner from the left hand side was hung up and Jamie Watling nodded the ball back across goal into the far corner to level up the game.

From then the Bulls seemed to put the pressure on, with the Dockers clearing the ball off the line. But in the 42nd minute, the ball fell to Albie in the box, who smashed it home at the near post to get Erith’s lead back just before the break.

The Dockers started the brighter and could have added a third through Reid-Solanki but his shot at an empty net went over the bar after the ball was squared to him.

Jersey Bulls got their second of the afternoon just before the hour mark, a rifled shot into the bottom right hand corner by Lorne Bickley.

In the final 20 minutes of the game, the Dockers came the closest with returning talisman Harry Taylor having his headed shot, from a cross off the right hand side, narrowly miss the far post.

The Dockers were really made to pay for their missed chances with The Bulls converting their very few chances in the game. On another day the Dockers fans may have seen a win but in the end a hard fought point against a strong Jersey Bulls side was the outcome.
